Welcome to another episode of the Mama bliss in life and biz podcast. I am your hostess Kathy Stowell and today we are talking on this 45th episode about releasing perfection perfection. See, I can’t even say it correctly, perfection in your coaching business because the truth is good news. Your coaching biz not be perfect because we’re all not perfect and imperfections are what make us not only adorable but out there doing things because we are just not going to allow these crazy expectations to hold us back from bringing assembly to the world, offering our services as coaches. And no matter where you’re at in this journey, the world needs that beautiful medicine. Only you can offer. So I have many, many stories. I was taking notes before hitting record thinking, Hmm, what can I share about releasing perfection? And much to my chagrin, I have so many stories about my imperfections and that’s okay.
So how far back should I go? Um, well first of all, let’s begin with you. So if you are out there as a coach already and still there’s something holding back, perhaps even, um, putting yourself out there in the marketing sense or really showing up on a consistent basis because you’re feeling that you want to wait until perhaps you lose weight or when there is a better season in, in regards to your children’s ages or um, whatever life circumstance that you feel you want to move out of before you can really, uh, dedicate your time and energy into growing or really rocking and rolling your coaching biz. Uh, yeah, I’m speaking to you and also to you who are swirling the idea in your mind about becoming a coach. But again, same thing. You’re feeling like it’s not the greatest season in your mothering journey or um, you just feel like you haven’t got clarity yet on what your niche might be or what it might look like for you and your day to day to coach because you’re not looking, um, you’re not feeling, you’re reflecting what you’re seeing out there in terms of coaches who are doing the Facebook lives, looking super pulled together, Polish their background in their Facebook lives are completely tidy and stylized and they’re just looking flawless and you’re thinking, yeah, that’s not me.
So maybe I should wait until I have my poop together first. Okay. So that’s who I’m talking to and a little bit now about how I was able to really hold on to that message because I feel like if I did not release these expectations of me to show up perfect. I wouldn’t be speaking to you here today on this podcast. So I’m, again, the imperfection is just going to really add to your business. It’s going to make you more relatable to your ideal customers. And like I mentioned, it’s going to make you adorable. Truth be told. I actually hired a life coach coach once and you know, like she was offering something I was interesting interested in. But on our first call I kind of let my honesty, which I do, um, come out, I wear my heart on my sleeve and I told her honestly, part of the reason I was drawn to you and wanting to hire you is because I just really liked that gap you have between your two front teeth.
Isn’t that weird? I said it, of course. It wasn’t the only reason I hired her, but it did in dear her to me. There’s something, it was something about her little gap tooth smile that just spoke to me was like I, I’ve always kinda been partial to people with gap between their two front teeth and um, it just drew me to her and made it triggered. Um, that chemistry piece almost, it’s so important. We are so blessed that there’s so many coaches out there in the world today and hopefully that that scene just grows and grows because everyone needs a coach. And often it’s like dating. It’s often about your first encounter with that person, that chemistry piece and chemistry. It’s all about falling in love in a weird way and a lot about falling in love. It’s just appreciating the person’s flaws because they remind you of a truth within yourself or you know, they remind you of you and they make them just again, more relatable and just really just, just this, just that, something about them.
You don’t know what you can’t put into words and that is often why I tell people. If you’re considering becoming a coach, obviously make sure you get coached yourself because there’s that certain June as a quad that happens in a coaching relationship that is really hard to explain and it’s very much I can tip falling in love, so embrace what makes you imperfect. It’s going to really draw your right people to you and econ almost can’t even guess what that is. My first foray in to the releasing the perfection piece and the name of inspiring moms and have them reach or attain a goal was back before I started coaching I was offering, I had an Etsy shop where I was selling some Hansen goods and I was brainstorming on ways that I can scale that business. And I thought, Hmm, maybe I can teach some moms how to soap.
And so, uh, that’s when some of you who are following me still from back in those days, my Backwoods mama, so camp and I created an eCourse that was running on autopilot. You purchase your spot and you immediately get a download of these patterns that I designed to build you a wardrobe. And it was really encouraging moms to not worry about the fact that they got what I call them in the marketing regret’s running around. That was something that you can pursue while the kids are napping, when they are around. And you’re going to learn how to do this by releasing perfection. We are going to take shortcuts. We’re going to make it super simple and it’s going to be far from perfect, but it’s going to be awesome. And so I was really encouraging the moms in this program to just, you know, if it’s imperfect, just celebrate that, uh, call whatever woopsie Daisy a design feature and it’s far from good but good from far away.
So that was the premise of that program and things got done. I noticed that by releasing perfection, things also happen. And if we wait for the perfect conditions when the kids are in school or when they’re at a school or we get the perfect website or perfect training, um, things are just not going to get done. The only way we’re going to move past this and to get to that point where you feel that you really have mastery of, of whatever it is that you’re offering in terms of your coaching ability or some clarity on what your offerings are going to look like, that is going to come as you do. So I what is really essential, uh, instead of perfection is just being willing to show up as a coach, to have a willingness to do better with each coaching session. So if you’re feeling drawn to become a coach, then obviously you’re feeling a sense of purpose or something that led you to here.
There is a big calling for you to support. Usually the moms who come to me, uh, feel, um, a calling to support moms, just a couple of steps behind them in their journey. So there’s typically an area of expertise that one can claim because they have overcome it yourself themselves. So if you have a willingness to help, um, you had the ability then to declare, I can help you, I can coach you through this. So that is the essential piece. I remember, um, when I was again talking to my, my daughter’s at that age now where I can just hand over all these life lessons and sometimes I feel I should record them cause some of them are so like inappropriate really and just kind of goofy. But one of them I remember recently sharing, it’s just really fun because my memory is kind of more clear when I was about 15, then, you know, when I was, you know, younger, but just saying to my daughter, okay, um, cause I remember she was worried when we left the house ones that are going to sleep over something like that that she forgot something crucial.
And I was just saying, you know what, I, when I was about your age, um, maybe a bit older, I would have a mantra. Every time I leave the house I would go money, lipstick ID. So it was just, okay, if I had those three things, everything else is going to be a bonus. Meaning mostly I have money so that I can just buy whatever I forgot or um, go, you know, as long as I don’t forget my lipstick, I’m all good. So it’s kind of a, a mantra you can even offer in your coaching business as well. So your mantra could be your willingness to coach and just having, uh, some offers. So just having some basic coaching offering you can start off with. And then as you get out there coaching, then you can start honing in on your niche and finding clarity on exactly it is who it is you serve and through what particular struggles I eat your niche and then as you progress you will find yourself knowing what holes you need to fill, uh, with further training and then you’ll have the ability to invest in making your website pretty or getting, I don’t know, a stylist to help you with your background, but then you’ll realize as you move through this that the aim here is just to keep it simple anyway.
The more you can keep your operations and your marketing and your ability to show up and meet new people, the more your business will grow. And then later I’m like way later in the future you can get more sophisticated and be able to hire out some tasks that are just going to be taking that time away. That’s really going to help you build on the important pieces such as refining your coaching skills and seeing how you can scale your biz in a S in a way that makes sense for you. And your ideal client. So the N important piece is just don’t get paralyzed by these really, they’re excuses of waiting until the perfect time or whatever other circumstance you deem would be more appropriate for you to start going for your coaching biz dreams or growing your biz or even just taking that first step.
So right now you might notice I sound different than last week’s episode because I’m finally back in my office. Uh, since when did this happen? Uh, August, September we got the puppy and um, I’ve been doing all my work from upstairs because we could not keep him on supervised and he would scream, uh, if left alone upstairs. So, um, he’s actually making me nervous so I’m back down to my office finally. This was like my first couple of days back in my way. Better recording studio for acoustics wise, any way, uh, to record the podcast. But I remember when we got him, it took me, Hmm. It’s been a few years. Just kind of flip flopping back and forth. Ooze. Is now a good time to get another dog? Can I get a puppy again? Oh, I don’t know. I don’t want to mess up a good thing, but I was flip flopping on that decision back and forth, back and forth.
And finally what got me giddy up being was the realization that there is never a perfect time. So just like having kids, right? It’s just like, it’s never going to be an ideal time to just having like a major life decision like this. So sometimes just making decision to go for something even though you feel like it can’t be perfect right off the bat or things could be more perfect in the future. Sometimes it’s just the decision making process is the most stressful part. So I encourage you, release perfection, embrace the Wabi. Sabi a Japanese philosophy. My husband and I, uh, got turned on together around when we first discovered it when we first were dating. So that was kind of romantic cause we were just all like Wabi Sabi this wabi-sabi that will I be Sabi you. Like it was just kind of really kind of, you know, mushy.
But anyways, um, sometimes you just have to embrace that and go for it and just find like it’s, it’s quaint when you go for it. And then you have the essentials under your belt, your willingness, um, your courage too. So you know, courage of the heart, um, to just really hold that intention to get out there and serve mama’s to go for your dreams, to create that home BIS business that’s based in something awesome is life coaching and then getting out there. So if you need help with the decision making process, I would love to help you, uh, through coaching or just sounding it out with me, uh, by hopping on discovery call and we can see if this is your perfectly imperfect time to go for your coaching biz dreams.
