Ready to tell your partner that you want in to invest in your blog to business growth but are feeling a little nervous and could use some pointers?
Whenever I executive-style decide to invest in Bliss Beyond Naptime’s reach and growth I have a few tricks up my many, many layers of sleeves I can share with you.
Here are a few ways to keep that money talk sweet, but not sticky with your honey.
Make an appointment with each other.
Mention sometime during the day that you want to chit chat once the kids are in bed about something you’re really excited about. And allow the visions of the delicious possibilities to be living your dream in real time literally drip from your eyes.
I don’t know about you but I LOVE playing arm chair psychologist with whoever sitting in the chair in front of my. Especially if they technicality own one of them arms on the chair!
Assess what’s his or her money story is. How are your attitudes different? How can you honor where they are at and reflect that back to them? I know my guy’s very logical, linear so with someone like that perhaps come prepared with a rough business plan and ideas on how to cut back on other areas of your budget for the time being.
And getting to know their love language could come in very handy here too. I took my love language test and then forwarded Craig my results and asked him to do the same.
My language is Words of Affirmation, if you must know, while Craig’s is Acts of Service. Words of Affirmation is actually way down on his list in fact. So even if I’m telling him how awesome I think he is the live long day, he wants me to act like I do. Gestures of thoughtfullness goes a long way.
Knowing how you can express your love before the talk in a really obvious way can totally butter up your butter cup before the big chat.
Find that fine balance between sharing the excitement that’s stirring in you while not getting too emotional. Again, some eye drips might want to happen but suck them back in if you can Mama!
Envision being a fruit filled, swaying in the wind, strong but flexible, mama tree. Deeply grounded to the earthy by the roots of your toes. Put on your I mean business personae on but still allow for any natural little misty eye action to creep in if you’re a waterworks kinda gal like me (better out than in I always say)!
Get a little closer.
Like, physically, borderline you’re- in- my- space- and -wow-your-pores-are-huge, kinda close.
Get close, hold their hand, massage their feet (I know, tricky to do all those things simultaneously but you can do it!) and make eye contact.
Make sure she or he can get a good whiff of the pheromones that brought you two together in the first place together and be reminded of the team situation you guys hand picked here. Unless, of course, this was an arranged marriage or you met as contestant on Married at First Sight (ohmygawd I loved the first season of that show)!
Make a plan to do scheduled check ins once its time to start earning your investment back and be sure to use all the tips here for those appointments too. Make a fun, romantic ritual of these meetings. Schedule in a date night once a month that includes an opportunity to chit chat in quiet, conspiratorial tones – like the movies!
To help bring clarity to yourself that this is indeed the next step, take a moment to bring your attention inward and check in with yourself.
Feel into your bones that this is truly what you desire, envision how this might help bring you closer to your vision, how else these skills or experience can enhance other aspects of your life. Lay down this strong foundation before entering the conversation so you can speak from your heart’s truth.
This is a good habit to get into for life in general anyway. I try to authentically compliment at least one person a day. Let this be their day!
Tell them you respect their opinion and you’re seriously thinking about going for this but want to hear their thoughts because they’re smart like that.
Tell them you respect their opinion and you’re seriously thinking about going for this but want to hear their thoughts because they’re smart like that. And look soooooo good in that colour!
