You want to become a coach but is it feeling lately like in any direction you throw a rock you;d hit a life coach on their empathetic head?
It might seem like the coaching scene is getting quite crowded but the truth is, it’s one of those if you buy a yellow car all you see all of sudden on the roads are yellow cars.
So if you haven’t yet bought your yellow car of a career path yet, I’m here to tell you to dive in. These coaching waters are fine. Perfect point of saturation. Not to dry. Not too soggy. Juuuuuuust right.
Coaching today is like the Yoga of yesteryear.
I was really into Ashtanga yoga in the late 90’s. So when Craig and I went to Maui, I found myself practicing my primary series on the beach when these guys came up to me and were like “well butter my butt and call me a biscuit, what are you doing there little lady?”
(My apologies to my American friends. Flashbacks that take place in the US always have a southern twang in them for some reason. Maybe because I’m
currently still reading Gone with the Wind.)
Flash forward ten years later. There is a yoga studio right beside every cannabis dispensary.
The more accepted it gets by mainstream culture, the more of a need there will be for life coaches. So now’s the perfect time to dip your toes into these wide open career waters.
It’s all about chemistry
Finding a coach that’s the right fit for you might involve kissing a couple of different coaches. It’s very much like finding a life partner. Or a best friend. Or a special cuddle party buddy.
Besides there being so many coaching styles and niches to choose from, there are different personalities behind that perfect blend as well. And not everyone is going to be a fit.
That’s why it’s important to offer a discovery call to see if the je ne sais quoi is there. After moving through the process a client can always sign up for more or try out a different coach.
I personally LOVE working with a new coach. It’s kinda like dating. And since I can’t do that anymore because of Mr Mama Bliss, I love getting intimate with a potential life partner (or at least a life or biz season partner) on another level.
So many niches that are needing to be filled to reach the masses.
And even within the umbrella of the Mama Bliss Coaching approach, there are a gazillion niches to home in on. I say a gazillion because I can’t help but go all hyperbole, but truth be told, I can’t imagine all the possibilities without more cups of latte. And any more latte today and I might hurt myself.
The discovering of that specialty area that will immediately draw in your perfect for you clients while making you stand out from a sea of coaches. And notice there I said a sea. That’s a big body of water. The coaches are floating there by the way nicely spaced apart.
There are niches that haven’t even been dreamed up yet. I myself over the years have hired business coaches, time management coach, make your home a sacred space coach, style coach, homeschooling coach, moving coach.
The power of the niche is it triggers an immediate yes. And it could lead to so much more.
And if you want to work with moms, you can simply stick a ‘mom’ in front of any of those example niches you see up there and there ya go. Super narrowed in and potent. There are 47 more examples if you want to sign up for the freebie below.
Truth is, everyone could use a coach.
Thankfully, with so many niches there is ample room to satisfy the need for everyone to have a coach if they so choose. We are living in times when were are much more isolated from the community support our ancestors once enjoyed. Like, everyone convening at Grandma’s house for dinner like my mom’s family does when we visit them in Peru.
Sometimes it’s just having a sounding board that can make all the difference. I use to feel sorry for my acupuncturist because I would talk his face off in every session. There is a need for us to be heard as mamas. And simultaneously, we have to be careful what we talk about in front of the kids. Little ears!
And for me, by the time the kids are in bed, I don’t want to talk about what’s been weighing on my mind. I just want to watch Netflix, eat chips and hug my wiener dog (also known as Mr Time Waster).
And the sounding board needs to be on the same sound frequency you’re going to be speaking from.
You need someone who is particularly dialed into what you’re struggling with today. Thus the power of the niche, the importance of finding someone you feel a connection with and someone who has the coaching tools and approach that speak to you on a soul level.
So check out the list for examples of coaching niches that can serve a very particular segment of the population. Simply plunk your name and email below (For someone in a very specific struggle in their life, finding the niche that you’re eager to serve with your unique background, experience and interest would be like finding a magical mermaid in an ocean of seaweed to swim away with!
Weird analogy, I know, but am I the only one who’s kinda/sorta had this fishy fantasy?
