There are so many ways that intuition plays a huge role in your life coaching path. You rely on it during your coaching calls to offer the support your clients need at any given moment. You need to tap into it when considering the never ending decisions it takes to build your practice. And that’s not to mention the million micro-decisions that make up your work/life balancing act so you can be an amazing coach and the mom who’s present for their family’s needs.
Let’s take a breather from all the decision making for a moment other than the decision of if you want to listen to this blog post as a podcast or read this podcast as a blog post.

And that is literally where to begin if you want to build this incredibly important component that will build your success as a coach. Deep breaths help you access that literal inner knowing. There’s wisdom there resting at them bottom of them lungs.
1. Take a deep breath.
At the floor of that rich in-breath is the answer to all your questions. You know what to do. And if you don’t, it helps to eliminate as many of the choices that come at you with careful planning, systems and routines in place. Get intentionally with getting strategic with deliciously placed pauses for a deep inhale allow us to access that inner knowing.
This is part of the reason that the S in SHOES (the Mama Bliss Coaching strategy for self-care) is for stillness. If we can’t carve out the time and space to be alone to listen to this voice it starts to get buried until we eventually forget it’s there.
2. Lean on creativity.
Seeing as you’re reading or listening to this, chances are very good that you’re a creative mama. Often this can be perceived as a crux if you want to set up a work from business that can take up some of your beloved creative time.
But luckily you’re armed with a couple of tricks up your puffy creative mama sleeves that can help stay well away from dreaded Meltdown City when you’re swimming in too many choices to make in your coaching biz.
Just like creativity – intuition is birthed from a hunch and morphs into visions and dreams – until finally there’s action. Pay attention to when these hunches arise. Like in a stellar shower session. Or walking your dog. Or folding laundry.
Notice your creative process and acknowledge that intuition speaks the same language. And then have patience with it. It’s a growing entity starting from nothing before turning into a real something.
So get playful with your intuition. Flirt with it. If your gut is pulling you toward one direction, even very subtly, pay attention to the signs that confirms this path. Or notice too how important it is to get messy with your creative process. Accept that this approach isn’t fool proof but there is a lesson that will result from your efforts no matter what.
3. Get ‘in to it’.
I was so in awe of how when I was pregnant for the first time, how it seemed all my senses were heightened. It began with my nose. I could detect smells way before Craig picked up on them. Which came in handy. Like, when the pilot light of the stove was blown off. And at other less handy moments, like when Craig’s butt’s pilot light was off.
This could drive one crazy, this hyper-sensitivity, but I decided to draw on it as a force of good. There is a wisdom and method to the highly attuned to gas smelling madness.
I reframed this, and the delirious cravings for corn on the cob that soon followed, as the dawning of my mama bear instincts. And I paid attention to how this made me slightly more super-powered than I use to be before. Especially if I exercised and showed it off a bit.
A delightful gift from our genetic make-up kicked started by hormones, or at least that sweet, sweet smell of baby fresh from the oven, mother’s intuition ensures we tap into our quickest on our feet versions of ourselves so we can scamper off to safety in a moments notice during birth and then simply know what to do to make sure all goes smooth during birth and beyond.
This, if we keep our access to our quiet centre in the midst of all the choices being thrown at us, the noises, busyness and other distractions, we always have an inner parenting and business coach just a deep inhale away.
4. Trust your decision to lean on your intuition.
My daughter and I were driving downtown a few weeks ago when I saw someone on the sidewalk I had on my to-do list to reach out to. I said to Edie – ‘O….M….G…. (the pause between the letters is what’s really? important here to make a teenager’s eyes roll to help them massage their developing cerebral cortex) – I was totally thinking of that person today. I swear I’m so psychic”.
And then my girl, who can be SO her father’s daughter, said “that, or it could simply be coincidence”.
It could be, but I choose not to believe that. Where’s the fun in that? In my heart I know my truth. And please note, in my world psychic and intuitive are interchangeable.
So go ahead and make that declaration you’re intuitive and just getting more so, no matter what the coincidence sayers say.
5. Intuition is a muscle one must workout everyday.
And how to build that muscle is by by tapping into your heart’s knowing and practice in trusting in it.
And this trusting begins with acknowledging and thanking it. Pay attention to when the Universe demonstrates you’re on to something by giving you a high five like it did when I saw that person walking down the street.
Utter ‘woooooah….’ when goosebumps crop up from serendipity How can you show thanks for this magic and ask for more?
6. Listen for expansion or contraction.
This intuition muscle mostly gets built up with the little mundane magic that makes up a a busy day, but being a mama (or a parent really, but ‘mama’ goes better with my branding) comes with a lot of heavy decisions to make. What tests to take when you’re pregnant. Where to give birth. What to name a kid (boys especially – girls are SO much easier to name!). Daycare or not. First food. Birthday party themes. Godparents. Vaccinations…. Aaaaaargh!!!
If you’ve been at this parenting gig for a while now, you have your own epiphanies along this journey that you can lean on when the decisions come up for your biz too. This is one of the principles with Mama Bliss Coaching. Lean on what has worked in the past.
What works for me is to meditate on the decision when I first wake up.
Now, before you massage your cerebral cortex with your eyeballs at me let me clarify what meditation looks like in my world at six in the morning. I lie in bed, cuddle the wiener dogs beside me because, like, they’re waaay to cute, soft and cuddly not to, and observe my body’s reaction to the choices presented to me.
If there’s excitement at one prospect, what’s the reason why? Repulsion? How come?
And sometimes this best guess is really, really hard to put your finger on. But what I’ve found it’s often a subtle contrast between feeling expansive from leaning toward one decision to feeling slightly contracted toward another one.
If contending choice offers you a feeling of a little more lightness and comfort knowing that if things work out in this reality realm, can you live with yourself more so than the other choices?
Tap into your mama bliss and you may have just brought on a super silent partner into your coaching biz.
With access to that calm centre that I often refer to as Mama Bliss you can zoom out of the endless to do tasks and see the big picture you hold in your heart for how you want to help the world, and model to your family how to go for your dream, with a simple inhale.
By leaning on a strong foundation supported by taking care of your self-care, creative and simplicity needs, you’ll have the clarity of mind of what to do next at every moment of your work day and the comfort when you’re taking the day off that a break from your work will only add value and energy to your next day (or small chunk of time if you’re really only diving into this very part time).
