I'm excited to share my first interview for the renewal of my Friday Feature – Etsy Friday. My first buddy to clamber up my porch step for some of my high octane espresso to loosen the tongue, Emily Beamer. She lives just a gun shot away across the river in another uber cute strawbale cottage. Edie thinks she's a princess who 'probably draws good princesses'. I know she draws good princess sheep for she's the international award-winning artist behind my While Tangerine Dreams artwork as well as for many local business, including Craig's, and abroad. Our whole house, and community, loves Emily!
Who are you, what is your stripper name, and what do you sell on etsy?
name is Emily and my pretend personae in my head is a cross between a
rockabilly snow white, and a medieval princess in gowns. I live in
the forest and talk to birds and deer in black dresses and gumboots
and love red lipstick and tattoos. They crawl across me like plants.
My stripper name would be quite boring though, Morris Baker. I wish
it was Cherri Valentine, although that one is already taken…. Rats!
On Etsy I sell prints of my botanical and anatomical drawings, pink
stick drawings with their hearts smashed into pieces, and unique 1
page web templates for etsy users that want a domain name that links
right to their store. I find having your own domain, separate from
Etsy, increases business when networking.
Not to rub it in or anything, but my stripper name's Kiki Gonzales. However, this interview isn't about me, it's about you. How did you come to find your crafty pursuit?
I am a graphic designer and illustrator. I have always drawn since I
was a child, it just came naturally. I am very visual and dreamy and
ideas come like pictures in my head. With my graphic design, I can do
different spreads in my head without having to actually make them to
pick the best one. It may sound kinda weird, but it’s just all I
love to draw plants and honor nature. I really respect art that takes
patience and time, such as the old Renaissance paintings or book
making. Our society now is very rushy and whips things out. My
drawings can take hours to months, depending on the scale. I like to
get every detail and I find it very calming and I am completely at
peace and glowing when I sit in the woods by a buttercup and draw it.
A few ants may crawl on me, but that’s ok! I bring snacks!
I love snacks! Walk me, Cherri, (screw the other Cherri Valentine, you're so not a Morris), through your typical creative day.
get up and feed my kitten Muffin. She is a high maintenance princess.
I let her get away with murder…. Xo. I do my makeup and hair,
usually a big black mass of on my head, red lipstick, black mascara
which I always forget to wash off and its gets all crusty. I listen
to some form of country or Bulgarian music. Best of both worlds.
Water my garden in a dress. I multitask a few freelance clients at
once, making sure everything is on schedule and I am a
timeline/calendar type lady. I love all my clients and they scattered
all over the world. After a few hours of designing or illustrating in
my cabin in the woods, I take a break and ride my red bike “cherry”
on by the river, or go get a cupcake.
Talk about being all visual and dreamy, what do you do other than illustrating, eat cupcakes and look so damn hot to feed
dance around to blasting Slovakian music, I have no idea what they
are saying but I’m sure someone’s dog has died or their woman has
like to watch dreamy foreign films. I loved “Caramel” from
read books, ride my bike, have girl chats about dresses and romance
with friends, I like to ride in pick up trucks, make small books. My
storybook about a girl who find love in a match book will be released
in October! Stay tuned!
like to stay humbled and grateful for what I have and keep a list of
life dreams as too never stop having wonder in my eyes, and see life
as a sacred gift.
Four words to describe your work, please.
dreamy, honorable, unique, sacred
This has been some fun, thanks for the interview. Parting words: my favourite thing is seeing you pull up on Cherry to join me on the porch to hang with me whilst I spin. What can those with slim chances of seeing you pull up on Cherry look forward too? Anything new coming up in your shop?
PODS! You know you love them! Little propellers of a leaf! I have a
new print of them. Check them out at http://www.ebeamer.etsy.com
