Can Anyone Become a Mom Coach?

July 17, 2026

Can Anyone Become a Mom Coach?

Have you ever caught yourself wondering…

“Could I actually become a mom coach?”

Maybe you love encouraging other moms, you’re constantly the person friends come to for advice, or you keep imagining what it would be like to build a coaching business around something that truly matters to you.

The good news?

I genuinely believe almost anyone can become a mom coach.

Not because it’s easy, but because great coaching has very little to do with having a perfect life.

Here are six reasons why.

Can Anyone Become a Mom Coach?

1. You Don’t Need to Have It All Figured Out Right Now

One of the biggest myths about becoming a coach is believing you need to be the perfect mom.

That your kids always listen.

That your house is spotless.

That you’ve mastered every parenting challenge.

The truth is…

The moms you’ll coach aren’t looking for perfection.

They’re looking for someone who understands them.

Someone who’s walked through similar struggles and can help them keep moving forward.

I love the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi—finding beauty in imperfection.

Your imperfections don’t disqualify you.

They make you relatable.

2. You Have a Genuine Desire to Help Moms

Yes, coaching offers flexibility.

Yes, you can build it around your family.

But those things alone won’t sustain you.

Building a coaching business is a marathon, not a sprint.

That’s why your why matters.

I often ask future coaches:

What makes you cry?

What makes you sigh?

What problems do you wish fewer moms had to experience?

What conversations naturally pull you in?

If you constantly find yourself wanting to encourage moms, solve problems, or simply remind women they’re not alone…

Those are clues that coaching could be a wonderful fit.

3. Your Life Experience Matters More Than You Think

Many aspiring coaches worry they don’t have enough credentials.

But often, the experiences you’ve lived through become your greatest qualifications.

Maybe you’ve:

  • navigated postpartum depression
  • simplified your family life
  • parented teenagers
  • returned to work after having children
  • strengthened your marriage
  • learned to create calmer routines

These aren’t just experiences.

They’re stories, lessons, and wisdom another mom is looking for.

Inside Mom Coach School, one of my favorite exercises is creating a personal timeline.

We look back through each season of life and identify:

  • challenges you’ve overcome
  • jobs you’ve held
  • interests you’ve pursued
  • skills you’ve developed

You’ll probably be surprised by how much you’ve already learned.

4. Coaching Is a Skill You Can Learn

Some people assume great coaches are simply born that way.

I don’t believe that’s true.

I’ve hired many coaches over the past 13 years.

They’re all completely different personalities.

Some are outgoing.

Some are quiet.

Some are energetic.

Some are calm.

What they all have in common isn’t personality.

It’s skill.

Great coaching is learning how to:

  • ask thoughtful questions
  • listen deeply
  • help people discover their own answers
  • hold space without trying to fix everything

Those are skills anyone can develop.

5. You Don’t Need Thousands of Followers

This one surprises people.

You do not need a huge audience before you start coaching.

You don’t need 10,000 Instagram followers.

You don’t need a polished brand.

You simply need a small group of people who connect with you.

When you consistently show up, share what you do, and let people know who you help, your audience naturally grows over time.

Every successful coach started with zero clients.

You will too.

6. The Better Question Isn’t Can You?

It’s…

Do you want to?

Fear is completely normal.

You’ll probably wonder:

  • Am I good enough?
  • Will people think this is silly?
  • Can I really charge for coaching?

Every coach asks those questions.

The difference is deciding not to let fear make the decision for you.

Instead of asking:

“Am I ready?”

Try asking:

“Am I willing to learn?”

That’s where every successful coach begins.
