Simplicity Celebrations ~ Beach Bums

beach bum

Today I celebrate the simplicity of our lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer being so in that laid back zone that I really need to rename this segment Simplicity Celebrations Tuesdays(ish).

The mornings and early afternoon bare the most intensity from the sun on our half clad bods so these days we spent most of the peak heat nestled inside the luscious coolness that is our r-value of 40 walls. The kids play ‘cafe’ and I have been playing with much cheese making and pulling together a new virtual workshop series that will be launched this fall (more on that coming up!).

Around 3:00, the idea of dinner is just starting to enter my realm of consciousness  as we slowly make our way to our little heavenly landing of the nearby beach.

In theory you don’t really need much to enjoy yourself at the beach really.

Towels, blanket, life jackets, fruit snack because dinner’s really just a seed of a thought at this point, and a couple of shovels to go with a bucket. Oh yeah, my reclining therm-a-rest chair because I like to sit vertically while allowing my abs retreat to a complete state of rest (keeps me in tip top apple shaped shape).

And if it’s really balmy I also like to bring the umbrella because the kids inherited Craig’s porcelain skin situation which is super adorable but can’t take too much sun god and goddess treatment.

So maybe that last celebration’s still in its infant stages but that’s part of the ongoing simplicity work, isn’t it? Let’s celebrate the small steps while realizing there is always room to grow. I think next time I’ll leave all that silly fruit at home. What’s your big celebration this week and one that is just a baby with room to grow?

xx

    Hi Kathy,
l love the topic of this post! Nothing more simple than beach time with the kids! I am always looking at ways to simplify what we bring to the beach. I notice while at ocean beaches in particular where the tide comes up and sweeps stuff away how too much “stuff” is left behind at the end of the day. So, much of the plastic toys get left and end up in our oceans. I’d love it if people can bring only what they can keep track of, there is so much other stuff to play with, rocks, sticks, seaweed, and our own sweet hands! Enjoy!
